The Eureka Flag as one of the verified artefacts of the 1854 Eureka Stockade rebellion offers a tangible link to this important event. There is much controversy surrounding the Flag, which has emerged as an icon of national significance, widely adopted, but still a contested cultural and political symbol. Decades of research by Clare Gervasoni and Dorothy Wickham has led them to consider various stories concerning its production and its legacy as a cultural artefact of unrivalled national significance. This talk by the winners of the 2005 overall Victorian Local History Award for The Eureka Encyclopaedia and creators of www.eurekapedia.org will highlight their discoveries on the Flag of the Southern Cross
