Are you a quality screenwriter to begin with? Screenwriting info session.

  • 51 Lydiard Street North Ballarat Central (map)

This information session covers the qualities of a professional screenwriter who works in the business and an outline of the course offered.

About this event

While it is great for an individual to aspire to be a screenwriter, it takes a specific type of person to thrive as one. There are many offerings in Australia, worldwide and online that will teach you the basics of the screenwriting craft, but rarely will they delve into what type of person it takes to thrive as a professional screenwriter. While there are books that will give you the insights and knowledge about how to sell to the cut throat business that is film and TV, when it comes to writing, they hardly ever address the issue of the worn out piece of advice that aspiring writers get when one of these aspiring writers signs up for one of these classes. This is where Jarod comes in and will talk to you about what he believes the screenwriting courses lack and introduce you to the traits and the qualifications of being a screenwriter.

Following his graduation from the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles, California, Jarod has picked up a few tricks of the trade when he gained a year's worth of experience in Hollywood working as an Intern for a non profit organization that receives film submissions from all around the world (Australia included), and has read a lot of scripts in order to pick up on these tricks of the trade.

What will be discussed in the session?

The session will start with a brief introduction with Jarod, who will then continue to talk about what he believes are the qualifications of being a professional or a quality screenwriter. He will then talk about what he has to offer in terms of the introduction to screenwriting that he has on offer and then compare this with the plethora of screenwriting courses (both in class, online and using self help books) that are on offer to what he will offer you. He will also talk about what the other screenwriting courses lack and their biggest issue when one signs up for a beginner's screenwriting course.
