“Amherst is a meditation on six poems by the American poet Emily Dickinson.
The theme for the concluding stop on the Waterway Soundwalk is ‘Restoration' - a sense of hope and possibility in our collective future.
The poems I’ve chosen resonate like ripples from pebbles dropped in a lake or skimming across a bright surface. Although she lived a solitary existence, Dickinson was acutely aware of the natural world and our place within it. These are spiritual reflections on the more-than-human.
Amherst is the name of the house in which Emily Dickinson was born and died. It is also a township in the Central Goldfields Shire in Victoria, and a winery, owned by my former neighbour, Luke Jones.”
