Nothing Exists Except What’s Here
“I walk through this area often, sometimes with our two young children, sometimes alone, so I know it well. I aimed to capture the feeling of being in the space within an impressionistic song called Nothing Exists Except What’s Here. The music is spacious and unhurried, and the lyrics paint a picture of the surroundings, with a hidden story sitting underneath the natural imagery.
I started the song as a vocal duet with piano but found myself adding more and more, ending up with multi-tracked piano, the full family of recorders (sopranino, descant, alto, tenor and bass), layered voices, guitar, bass and percussion. It features the beautiful singing voice of Jane Hendry, and was written and recorded in my studio in Lake Gardens, a short walk away from North Gardens.”
